About Lumeriona Academy

We are a Canadian-born academy dedicated to elevating story interviewing with ethics-first, human-centred pedagogy. From coast to coast to coast, we champion accessible learning that respects communities, languages, and land.

  • Mission: democratize advanced interviewing skills while safeguarding dignity and truth.

  • Ethics: transparency, consent, reciprocity, and care for vulnerable sources.

  • Accessibility: sliding-scale access and inclusive materials for all abilities.

Our mission and ethics

Lumeriona Academy advances the craft of interviewing by uniting rigour with compassion. We teach methods rooted in trauma-informed practice, source autonomy, and editorial independence. Our ethical compass aligns with Canadian journalistic principles and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Ethical pillars

  • Informed consent is continuous: revisit, reaffirm, and respect a source’s changing boundaries.

  • Context over clicks: prioritize accuracy, harm reduction, and long-term community trust.

  • Accessibility by design: plain-language options, transcripts, and multi-modal instruction.

  • Reciprocity and feedback loops: communities should benefit from the stories told with them.

Pledge renewal

We reaffirm our ethics each Canada Day.

Team values

  • Care for people

We protect sources and learners with empathy, confidentiality, and fair expectations.

  • Craft mastery

We refine interviewing across formats—print, audio, and visual—through practice and critique.

  • Respect for land

We acknowledge Indigenous lands and integrate local context into every learning pathway.

  • Bilingual spirit

We support English and French learners, with openness to multilingual communities.

  • Open knowledge

We publish public notes and encourage peer-to-peer mentorship and reflection.

  • Integrity

We say what we do and do what we say—consistent, transparent, and accountable.

Canadian orientation

Our programs reflect Canada’s regional diversity—from the Atlantic to the Prairies, from the North to the Pacific coast. We collaborate with community media, campus outlets, and independent storytellers across provinces and territories.

  • Local context modules: Indigenous protocols, urban-rural reporting, and northern logistics.

  • Accessibility commitments: captioned lessons, transcripts, and screen-reader-first design.

  • Partnerships across BC, AB, SK, MB, ON, QC, and Atlantic Canada—with pathways for the North.

Our unique pledge

We invite every learner to voluntarily accept our ethics pledge. Accepting it unlocks a personal, time-stamped certificate stored in your browser—no emails, no tracking.
